Videos of sheep feed troughs with roofs
The feed troughs are build with a strong waterproof steel frame. We use 32x32 square tube to build the feed troughs steel frames. The corners are cut 45 degrees and welded all around to prevent water getting into the steel frame - and to keep insects like wasps to make nest in the steel frames. By using 45 degrees joints the steel frame is also much stronger.
Here you can clearly see how far the roofs go over the feed troughs. The roofs are 1 meter longer (500mm each side) than the feed trough. It will have to rain at a very low angle for water to get into the feed troughs.

The roof and the roof legs are build with 32x32 square tube and 25x25 square tube. The metal sheets that are used on the roof, are fully galvanized. The roof can easily be taken off from the feeding trough, by removing 8x 10mm bolts.

Feed trough height:  300 mm  (30cm)
Feed trough lengths:  2,4 meters and 3 meters
All the steel are painted with two coats red oxide paint that is rust proof and a very good base paint, and then painted with two coats black industrial paint to protect the steel against rain and sun. The outside of the roof sheet metals are painted with red oxide paint.
We use quality full thickness conveyor that is 10mm to 15mm thick. It is very strong and will last a lifetime. The conveyor are bolted to the steel frame with 7mm boults and nuts. The nuts are tightened and the extra bolt cut off, before we weld the bolt and nut together so that it will not come loose.
